YAMS Method

The YAMS Method is a simple, memorable framework designed to help young people understand the key conditions for safe, consensual sexual activity. Each letter highlights an essential component: a clear and enthusiastic “yes,” the absence of alcohol or drugs, the ability for both partners to make informed and sound decisions, and engaging with partners of a similar age. Together, these elements provide a practical foundation for conversations about consent, safety, and respect.

Organizations can use the YAMS Method as an accessible educational tool in classrooms, workshops, and prevention programming. Its clear structure makes it easy to incorporate into presentations, facilitate group discussions, and support guided reflection on real-life scenarios. Whether used as a standalone lesson or integrated into broader curricula, the framework helps participants build a shared understanding of consent and develop skills to navigate relationships safely and responsibly.

*The YAMS consent initiative is intended for high school and college students. It provides age‑appropriate education on consent, personal boundaries, healthy relationships, and respectful decision‑making. The program equips youth with practical tools to understand that consent must be clear, voluntary, informed, and ongoing in every relationship and interaction.
